Food Technology
The aim is to actively engage students in learning about food in a variety of settings, enabling them to evaluate the relationships between food technology, nutritional status and the quality of life. Students will develop confidence and proficiency in their practical interactions with and decisions regarding food.
Year 9
Deliciously Nutritious - Students examine the role of food and its nutritional components in the body; explore nutritional needs of individuals and groups. They will also plan and prepare safe and nutritious foods.
Trendy Foods - students will examine historical and current food trends and explore factors that influence their appeal and acceptability.
Healthy Living For Life - students gain an understanding of individuals changing nutritional requirements and the skills needed to select and prepare food to meet nutritional well-being of all family members.
Fare's Fair - students will examine food production and distribution globally and how this is influenced by factors such as transport, politics, infrastructure, environmental and geographic considerations.
Year 10
Aussie Tucker - students will examine the history of food in Australia, beginning with traditional bush food prepared by Aboriginals, the influence of early European settlers continuing with migration. Students will prepare food which reflects the eclectic nature of Australian cuisine
Look What's New - students will examine the reasons for developing food products and their impact of past and present food product innovations.
What's On The Menu? - students will examine food service and catering venues and their operations across a variety of settings and investigate employment opportunities.
Childhood Studies
Child Studies education aims to enhance the educational and vocational options available to students by introducing them to the basic knowledge and skills of child development.
Year 9
Introductory Child Studies - provides an overview on pregnancy and childbirth. Students also examine the birthing process.
Baby Has Arrived - the main focus in this unit is on after the birth and the level of care required looking after a newborn.
Year 10
Happy & Healthy - the importance of healthy feeding and hygiene practices is investigated. Students will also develop an understanding of the nature and importance of play.
The School Child - explores the issues young children starting school & progressing through the Years K-6.
Children with Special Needs - considers the special needs of some children & the impact on parents & siblings. |
