Our school has a proud history of participation and success at school, zone, regional, state and national levels of sport.
Our school Sports Program includes swimming, athletics and cross country carnivals, as well as facilitating opportunities for our students through regional sporting competitions by entering up to 30 school teams in a wide range of sports.
School Sport Program Information for 2011
Lambton High school students are offered a combination of traditional school sport afternoon activities, a fully integrated sports program for Year 7 students and a partially separate program for year 8 students.
Year 7 have their sports lessons integrated into the school’s normal timetable and in general will be under the supervision of teachers from the PD/H/PE faculty.
Year 8 will have their sports lessons during the normal Wednesday sport afternoon .
Year 8 will be grouped into 5 classes and follow a rotation between 5 sports. They will be given a 2 week exposure to each sport during the 1st term.
The following sports will be offered to students in Years 9 and 10 during term 1 of 2011
Bus Sports-
To enrol at these sports students must pay the amount indicated which will cover the cost of bus fare for the term. Payment to be made at the Student Payment Office.
Beach Sports -$40(Return Busfare to Nobby’s Beach) Students will catch a bus from school to Nobby’s or Newcastle Beach at 1.15pm on Wednesday afternoons.
At the beach they will participate in a number of recreational activities including beach volleyball, beach touch football and running/ walking.
Students will then catch the return bus to school at approximately 2.40pm
*Students will be required to submit a signed permission note to participate in this sport
Tenpin Bowling- $40(Return Busfare to Mayfield Superstrike)+ $4.50 per week Tenpin Bowling will be held at Mayfield Super Strike in Maitland Rd, Mayfield.
The centre will supply all equipment needed to bowl as well as games at a cost of $6 (2 games) per sports afternoon. The centre features computerised scoring and is air conditioned.
An initial cost of $40 for a return bus fare for the term will apply. Students will be required to use this bus each week.
Students will have an initial rollcall on the bus as it leaves Lambton High School, a rollcall at the centre and a final rollcall as they board the return bus at approximately 2.45pm. The group will be dismissed on arrival back at school at 3.00pm.
Learn to Surf-$40(Return Busfare to Nobby’s Beach)+ $90 tuition for the term These lessons are conducted by Newcastle Surf School at a reduced rate as part of their school sport incentive.
Lessons will be held at the locally patrolled Nobby’s beach or swimming in Newcastle ocean baths when the surf conditions are not suitable for beginners. There will be supervision by a teacher from Lambton High School plus Newcastle Surf School Instructors. Students will ride a surfboard provided by the company and wetsuits and rash shirts are also included in the cost.
A return bus has been hired to get participants to and from this sport. Students who choose this sport are required to use this bus

Ice Skating- $40(Return Busfare to Hunter Ice Skating Stadium)+ $6 per week skate hire Ice Skating sessions will be held at the Hunter Indoor Skating Stadium at Warners Bay. Students will need to catch the sport bus(cost $40 per term) to the stadium and will be dismissed from school when the bus returns at 3.00pm. Any variation to this routine must be verified by a written parental request note handed to the teacher in charge of the sport.
Sessions will be run at a cost of $6.00 per afternoon. Skates will be provided. Students will need to provide appropriate warm clothing.
Surfing- $40(Return Busfare toNobby’s Beach) School surfing involves surfing at a patrolled beach either Newcastle or Nobbys and swimming at Newcastle baths under the supervision of a teacher from Lambton High School. Students will either ride a surfboard or use flippers and a body board and also swim unassisted in the surf-Students who have not gained a Surf Bronze Medallion must be tested during sport time to obtain a Surf Survival Certificate at a cost of $3 approximately.

Weekly Payment sports- students will be enrolled on a first in first served basis upon return of this sheet to the PE office signed by both student and parent/carer.
Wests Gym -$5 per week, Students will have an attendance check at school then walk, under the supervision of the teacher in charge, to the venue. At the venue they will pay the weekly admission cost of $5 and participate in a variety of Gym based fitness activities. At the completion of the session the group will walk, under the supervision of the teacher in charge back to school where there will be a final attendance check.
Planet Fitness Gym -$5.50 per week, Students will have an attendance check at school then walk, under the supervision of the teacher in charge, to the venue. At the venue they will pay the weekly admission cost of $5 and participate in a variety of Gym based fitness activities. At the completion of the session the group will walk, under the supervision of the teacher in charge back to school where there will be a final attendance check.
Zumba Dance -$50 for the term, (Paid in Advance at the Student Payment Office)

Students will have an attendance check at school then walk, under the supervision of the teacher in charge, to the venue. At the venue they will pay the weekly cost of $2 and participate in tennis games under the supervision of the teacher in charge. At the completion of the session the group will walk, under the supervision of the teacher in charge back to school where there will be a final attendance check.
District Park Tennis- $3 per week
Students will have an attendance check at school then walk, under the supervision of the teacher in charge, to the venue. At the venue they will pay the weekly cost of $3 and participate in tennis games under the supervision of the teacher in charge. At the completion of the session the group will walk, under the supervision of the teacher in charge back to school where there will be a final attendance check.
Golf- $8 per week + return transport is student/parent responsibility.
This sport will be held at Merewether Golf Club in King St, Adamstown. The school is unable to provide transport to or from this sport.
Therefore parents of children who wish to do golf on Wednesday afternoons should realize that they will be responsible for transport both to and from the c lub for their children each week.
Pupils will need to be at the club for the initial rollcall at 1.30pm and be ready to depart after the final rollcall at 3.00pm.
Diving- $5 per week + pool entry to Lambton Pool
Students will have an attendance check at school then walk, under the supervision of the teacher in charge, to the Lambton Pool. There they will be given instruction on competitive diving techniques by a qualified diving instructor.
. At the completion of the session the group will walk, under the supervision of the teacher in charge back to school where there will be a final attendance check.

“Free” sports -
Students will be enrolled on a first in first served basis upon return of this sheet to the PE office, signed by both student and parent/carer.
Power Walking -
Students will have an attendance check at school then walk, under the supervision of the teacher in charge to various venues in the Lambton Area.
At the completion of the session the group will walk, under the supervision of the teacher in charge back to school where there will be a final attendance check.
Cycling -
Students under the guidance and supervision of the teacher in charge will ride from the school mainly on cycleways and quiet sealed roads to various destinations in the area and then returning to school at the end of the sports afternoon. It will of course at times be necessary to ride across and along major roads. This will be done at the discretion and direction of the teacher in charge.
Students will be required to wear an approved helmet at all times whilst riding in the school group. Students will not be permitted to ride without this helmet. Students bikes(road bikes or mountain bikes only) must be roadworthy and they will tested on the first day and periodically after that. Emphasis will be on the efficiency and functioning of brakes and gears and the state of tyres and wheels.
Apart from the helmet and bike students must be equipped with a spare tube and the tools needed in the case of a flat tyre. This will include having access to a pump.
Students must of course be prepared to behave with common sense and with due regard for their own safety and that of all members of the group.
At the start and completion of the session the group there will be attendance checks.

Basketball
Students enrolled in this sport will receive skill sessions and gameplay at the school facilities An initial and final attendance check will be held during the afternoon.
Cricket
Students enrolled in this sport will receive skill sessions and gameplay at the school facilities An intial and final attendance check will be held during the afternoon.
Lawn Bowls
Students will have an attendance check at school then walk, under the supervision of the teacher in charge to various bowling clubs in the Lambton Area. At these venues they will receive basic instruction in lawn bowls techniques from the teacher in charge and coaching from staff at the bowling club. They will also be given the opportunity to participate in competitions within the group.
At the completion of the session the group will walk, under the supervision of the teacher in charge back to school where there will be a final attendance check.
Volleyball
Students enrolled in this sport will receive skill sessions and gameplay at the school facilities An initial and final attendance check will be held during the afternoon.
Softball
Students enrolled in this sport will receive skill sessions and gameplay at the school facilities An initial and final attendance check will be held during the afternoon.
