About
the project : Becoming an Independent Learner
The
year 10 project is a compulsoy and important component of the year 10
curriculum at LHS.It is part of completing Stage 5 and is one aspect of
the Lambton High School Assessment for Learning Project.(ALP)
The
project aims to:
- support
the year 10 curriculum by making it more relevant to the needs of the
students by relating to future career options and future study
needs and requirements.
- assess key
year 10 exit outcomes (as they are expressed in the syllabi Key Competencies)
in a more authentic way
- increases
opportunities for students to reflect on the process of learning and
to publicly share what they have learned about themselves as learners
especially how they have made progress as independent and reflective
learners
- provide
students with an opportunity to present their learning in a more authentic
way, ie an opportunity to show what they really know and can do as a
result of year 10 learning experience
- further
develops the thinking skills and study skills as developed in year 7,
8 and 9
- enhance
lifelong learning skills of all students including continued learning
in the area of Key Competencies
- impacts
positively on the culture of learning in year 10
- fosters
community participation and involvement in the evaluation and assessment
process

Students

What
do students do?
As
part of the project students will be involved in a number of activities
throughout the year. One of the activities will invole students developing
skills in resume writing and job interview procedures. Interviews will
be conducted and students will be provided with an interview performance
result and a completion certificate.
What
are the key project activities?
In
addition to the general classroom curriculum, students will be involved
in a number of key project activities, including:
- goal

on classroom learning

skills activities
- reflections
on prescribed subject assignments
- school
to work (career plan) activities
- resume
preparation
- job
interview preparation
- preparation
of a project folder/ portfolio

presentation/ intervie
Resources
have been allocated to assist students in successfully completing the
